At the vet check sometimes in late January.
Leslie holds Lori while a
volunteer vet checks her temperature. Lelsie got those nice clean mukluks for Xmas.
They won't be quite this spiffy later this month once she is done handling this Quest for
me.
But she does not know that yet!

On one of the last training runs across Lake
Laberge. I finally managed to keep a trail in after
countless hours on the ski-doo. The mountain on the left is called Turtle Mountain for
obvious reasons.

About 10 miles from home is an old abandoned
village.
The dogs have gotten used to stop here.
Blaze and Ali are in lead, Maggie and Jack in swing (behind the leaders).

On the way home we got this characteristic
blue evening light which indicates that it will be cold.
It was about 30 below when I took this picture. The trail follows the pilons which
formed a wall to keep the river narrow and deep about 100 years ago. Straight ahead is
Lake Laberge (40 miles long).

Pilot Mountain (left) and Flat Top Mountain
(right).

Arleigh and Minou (the cat) seem to be
completely unaware of the pre-race preparations
and do a great job to keep the couch warm. I don't have time to sit oon it anyway.
